Black Churches to Celebrate Inauguration With Ball
To commemorate the historic inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama, black church leaders will have a gala celebration, the African American Church Inaugural Ball, Sunday, Jan. 18 at the Grand Hyatt in Washington, D.C. The ball, themed "We Have Come This Far By Faith," is slated to be a star-studded affair, with major world leaders in entertainment, religion, business, and the arts in attendance.
Keepers of the Flame awards will be given at the gala, and honorees include Donna Brazile, political analyst and author; Dorothy Height, civil rights activist and chair of the National Council of Negro Women; Congressman John Lewis, a leader of the Civil Rights Movement; the Rev. Al Sharpton, a political and civil rights activist; and Earl G. Graves Sr., chairman and publisher of Black Enterprise magazine.
"We must honor this time in our great history, struggles and strength as well as make a commitment to the future of our community," the Rev. W. Franklyn Richardson II, chair of the inaugural ball and pastor of Grace Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon, New York said in a news release.
The black-tie gala's fundraising beneficiary is the Balm in Gilead, an organization that provides HIV, AIDS, and other health issues education and awareness within African American faith communities. All proceeds from the event will go toward the organization.
A reception will precede a sit-down dinner before awards are presented. Performances by nationally and internationally known music artists are also scheduled.

Nafta has cost America: Twelve years later, it is clear that the costs to workers outweighed the benefits in all three nations. The process differed from country to country, and given the greater size and wealth of the United States, the impact there has not been as great as it was in Mexico and Canada. But the overall pattern was similar. In each nation, workers’ share of the gains from rising productivity fell and the proportion of income and wealth going to those at the very top of the economic pyramid grew.
Americans were promised that NAFTA would generate large numbers of net new good jobs. Instead, over a million jobs that would otherwise have been created were lost, and wages were pressured downward for a large number of workers with less than a college education.
111,000 Black workers lost their jobs.
H-1B
The H-1B visa program is used by some U.S.employers to employ foreign workers in specialty occupations that require theoretical or technical expertise in a specialized field and a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent. Typical H-1B occupations include architects, engineers, computer programmers, accountants, doctors and college professors. The H-1B visa program also includes certain fashion models of distinguished merit and ability and up to 100 persons who will performing services of an exceptional nature in connection with Department of Defense (DOD) research and development projects or coproduction projects. The current annual cap on the H-1B category is 65,000. Not all H-1B nonimmigrants are subject to this annual cap.
How many of these jobs would have gone to Black America Workers?
Is this a way not hire Black America Employees?
I wish our Black Preachers would look at what NAFTA and H1B has cost our brothers and sisters.
